Key Club Spreads Holiday Cheer

December 15, 2009

Members of Loyalsock Township Key Club and the Lycoming College Circle K took time to spread the holiday spirit to some private nursing homes on Tuesday, December 8.

A total of 31 carolers piled onto a city bus on Tuesday armed with songbooks, holiday cards, and elf costumes. The idea of this outing was to visit small nursing homes that don’t receive many guests throughout the holidays. Miss Jennifer Beck, Loyalsock’s Key Club advisor, said “When I called to check with the homes, all managers were so grateful and commented that no one came to spread cheer last year.” The students sang for the residents of Tilburg’s Home for the Young at Heart, Insinger’s on Campbell Street, Insinger’s in South Williamsport, and Our House-Your Home.

The residents were visibly enthused by their spirited guests. Circle K made elf costumes for Key Clubbers Bryan Keith, Eric Djikowski, Jonathan Havens, Michael Hayes and Joe Cipriani. Tessa Harris, a sophomore, stated, “It was so rewarding to see how much they [the residents] enjoyed having us. Some sand and danced along, and I could tell they appreciated it.” Many students felt the same, and Miss Beck plans to make this an annual event.
