We recently received correspondence regarding the work of our high school art teacher, Mr. Gerry Kaplan, and his art students' work in conjunction with
The Memory Project - a nationwide initiative in which art students create portraits for children around the world who have been orphaned, neglected, or disadvantaged. Such children have few, if any, keepsakes to call their own, and Mr. Kaplan's art students have been completing portraits for 14 youth in Rwanda, Africa. The portraits will be delivered to these children in early summer, 2011. Without a doubt, our students' and Mr. Kaplan's experience with such a nationwide project is rewarding for all, where our very own Loyalsock students have a chance to reach out across the world and demonstrate kindness, empathy, and service. Kudos to these students and Mr. Kaplan on the very profound impact they are having on children from a very distressed region of another continent. Well done!
