Leah N. Headed to States
March 28, 2012
On March 22-24, Leah N., a violinist at Loyalsock, attended PMEA Region IV-V Orchestra at Wiliamsport High School. The festival brought together 130 students from 61 different school districts. They were selected to participate through a series of competitive auditions. Guest conductor for the festival was Mr. David E. Becker, Director of Orchestral Studies and Conductor of the Symphony and Opera Orchestra at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. The program for the festival included Gioachino Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and Gustav Holst The Planets. While at the festival, Leah had another audition competing against 23 other first violins. Leah placed third, which earned her the right to attend Pennsylvania Music Educators Association State Orchestra held in Lancaster on April 18 – 21. Leah has played violin for many years and is the private student of Mr. David Lassiter. Leah plays electric violin in the Loyalsock Jazz Band and she plays clarinet in the Concert Band. She is also a member of the Williamsport Youth Orchestra. Congratulations Leah on representing Loyalsock Twp. High School so well!
